What is the point of traveling to you? Is it to make memories? To see new countries? To tick another country off the list? Is it about meeting local people or simply tasting new food?
Most of these reasons are significant, but for our Host of the Week and an NYCFC fanatic, Kevin Nelson, one is incredibly important – it’s meeting the local people. But just how exactly do you break the ice? Walking up to strangers isn't everyone's strong point. Thanks to the uniquely unifying power of sports and the internet, meeting new people from around the world is made possible.
Dedicated sports fans everywhere are always game to meet new people with the same interest and to try out new and exciting ways to show their teams how much they are loved.

Tell us the story of becoming a fan for NYCFC.
I became a NYCFC fan 4 years ago. I was a big Chelsea supporter but work always got in the way of watching the games. I decided to check out the MLS and there was a team playing in Yankee stadium, went to a match there and I fell in love with the team and the atmosphere.
What do you love most about your team?
What I love most is the fans and the passion of NYC. They will tell you exactly how they feel and are the most passionate fans in the world in all of the local sports.
What is your favourite piece of team gear and why?
My jersey that has the number 133 on the back. It is the section of my season tickets and it’s a reminder of the friends I’ve met and the memories I’ve made while at the matches.
What are three things most people don’t know about NYCFC fans and the club?
1) The fan base is so diverse, it brings together fans of all backgrounds.
2) Every game has a rivalry atmosphere!
3) Speaking of rivals, the Red Bull’s are not New York’s team! New York is Blue and white!
They are from Jersey!
What's your favourite NYCFC memory?
David Villa's hat trick to lift the squad over the New York Red Bulls in 2017.
Have you ever gone to see sports while travelling?
I always do! I go to at least one road match for NYCFC a year as well as as many Yankees and Jets games on the road possible!
What’s your favourite memory of this?
Last year I finally I got to go to Nashville to see the Jets play the Titans. Didn’t get the win but got to see a city I’ve always wanted to go to and party with the locals!
How important is it to meet locals while travelling?
Very!!! Sports is what gives us all a commonality and escape from the world. I love and respect the fans of all teams!
