From a family of spread allegiances, Liz emerged as a Melbourne Demons supporter as a little girl after her cousin played for the club; and she has never looked back ever since. She’s not only travelled around Australia to support the Dees, she also knows what it’s like to experience sports while travelling, while proudly showing off her mighty Demons to internationals.
We'd love to hear your story as a Melbourne fan!
My dad and one of my brothers are Melbourne supporters, while my mum follows Collingwood, along with a brother barracking for Hawthorn and the other for Essendon. The family all lobbied to have me support their respective teams because I am the youngest, but I was won over because a second cousin of ours, Glenn Lovett, who played for Melbourne when I was little.
What do you love most about your club?
They have a fair and supportive attitude both on and off the field. There's a good environment at the club and they also contribute a lot to the community through their programs.
What makes you go out there and support the Dees at their live games?
Because the atmosphere makes it. The crowd has a lot of fun and I think it really helps the players to have support there.
What's your favourite footy memory?
I took my Dad to Darwin to watch the Melbourne vs Port Adelaide game in 2014 as a surprise birthday present. We lost but it was the best AFL experience we ever had! There was so much local support and people traveling in from all over the country- such a great vibe!
How important is it to meet locals while travelling?
Very. You don’t experience culture and the real environment if you don’t meet people. And we all love to show people the goof things about where we live, so everyone has fun.
