Luke Humphries from @PiesNation runs one of the biggest fan communities for Collingwood Supporters. Ahead of the Robert Rose Cup, we sat down with Luke to find out how this super-fan turned his passion into a nation of Magpies followers surpassing +34K.
How did you become a Collingwood fan?
I have always supported Collingwood. I grew up living in Sydney & began supporting them there & since moving to Melbourne that support has just grown & grown.
What do you love most about your club?
I think the fact we have the biggest & most passionate supporter base in the league no matter where we sit on the ladder. Unlike other clubs where they may have ‘bandwagons’ jump on when successful, Collingwood is a club you either love or hate & that is something I love.
What is your favourite piece of team gear & why?
My favourite piece of team gear is our guernseys. Mainly just because I have around 30 of them. They are great to buy each season & continually grow my collection.
What’s your favourite footy memory?
Mine would have to be the 2011 preliminary final vs Hawthorn. One of the most epic matches ever. I would have watched it at least 100 times since.
Sharing the Pies with the World
What makes you want to share your love of the game with others?
It’s the greatest game in the world & deserves to be shared with the world. I love it so much & I love talking footy with others & I just think the more people who see it & can get involved, the better!
The Robert Rose Cup
Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs will honour former player Robert Rose’s contribution to sport and raise awareness for people living with disability when the teams play for the Robert Rose Cup on Friday, May 25 at Etihad Stadium.
The Robert Rose Foundation provides support to those suffering from spinal injuries and physical disabilities through Independence Australia.
It is named after Robert who played 26 games for Collingwood between 1970 and 1972 and nine for Footscray in 1973. He was the son of legendary Collingwood player and coach Bob Rose, and his uncles Kevin, Ralph and Bill Rose all played for the club with distinction.
The two clubs have played for the Robert Rose Cup annually since 2000, with the ledger tied at 9-9 in the 18 contests. Find out more.
Robert Rose shares a moment with his father Bob (152 games) and uncle Kevin (159 games).
